Fall BOS Bird Count in Niagara

Buffalo Ornithological Society Bird Count

Ashley and I are very excited to take part in another Buffalo Ornithological Society (BOS) bird count for 2015 (We contributed to a Spring Migration Count in mid-may).  This time around we will be looking for migrants on their way back south for the winter.  We are hoping to add some more species to our ebird list for this year.  This years fall bird count is on October 10th, starting first thing in the morning.  Ashley and I have recorded record numbers of species seen for this year. This is mainly due to meeting experienced birders in the area that are able to help us identify new species, and distinguish between similar ones. I guess you could say this is our big year!

Current Number of Species Seen in Niagara region as of Oct. 7, 2015, = 123

Bird Count Sightings

You can expect a full report of our trip including the list of species we were able to observe. We will be taking lots of photos and even shooting some video for our new YouTube channel focused on birding and bird photography. We hope to share our passion for this hobby from the perspective of young-adults to increase awareness of conservation and our impact on the environment. Some of the birds we are anticipating on seeing are:

  • Golden-crowned Kinglet
  • Ruby-crowned Kinglet
  • Great Egret
  • Black Scoter
  • Surf Scoter
  • White-winged Scoter
